Always Dab, Never Scrub

The first thing you need to know about carpet cleaning is that you should always dab a stain. That’s because if you scrub the carpet stain, you’ll work the stain into the fiber of your carpet. To avoid this from happening use a dabbing motion when removing a carpet stain. Resist the urge to scrub and you should be fine. Always dab with a damp cleaning cloth.

Natural Carpet Cleaning Methods

If you’re cleaning a fresh carpet stain, you really don’t need to use any harsh cleaning products. Vinegar, baking soda, and rubbing alcohol will get rid of a variety of stains. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Wine carpet stains – Pour a cup of baking soda over the stain and let it absorb the stain for five minutes. After you do that pour half of cup white vinegar on the baking soda, followed by another cup of baking soda. Let that mixture sit for 20 minutes. When the 20 minutes are up, blot all of that up with a clean cloth.
  • Pet urine stains – Pour a cup of white vinegar on the stain followed by a cup of baking soda. Let that sit for 15 minutes. Blot it up and then pour a cup of vineger over it. Let that set for an hour and then blot it up with a clean cloth.
  • Coffee carpet stains – Take a damp cloth and blot as much of the stain up as possible. Then pour a cup of vinegar over it and let that sit for 5 minutes. Blot that up and then pour a cup of soapy water over the stain. Let that set for 5 minutes and then blot it up –
  • Nail polish carpet stains – You can either pour half a cup of rubbing alcohol or half a cup of clear nail polish over the stain. Then proceed to blot the stain up.
  • Tea carpet stains – Pour a half of baking soda over the stain and let it set for five minutes. The pour a cup of warm water over it and blot everything up.
  • Tomato sauce stains – Pour a cup of soapy water over the stain. Then pour a cup of baking soda over the stain and let it set for 10 minutes. Pour a cup of white vinegar over the stain and blot it up.
